Dear Friends,

As we are in the thick of summer, we polled the congregation as to what they were reading this summer. Although this has been a summer like no other, it is always nice to escape into a good book.

In need of a prayer or mediation? We heard from our dear friend Dick Fichter in last week’s Hump Day message about the Book of Common Prayer. Always a wonderful resource to rely on in our daily prayer lives, in addition to the Bible of course!

Our Epiphany Book Group just finished up the book White Fragility: Why It’s So Hard for White People to Talk About Racism written by Robin DiAngelo. It came recommended from the group and a few others in the congregation.

The Women’s Bible Study is tackling the book Chasing Vines: Finding Your Way to an Immensely Fruitful Life by Beth Moore. The group is finding the metaphor of the vine alive and true in the world around them today.

For those parents at home wanting resources for faith development, these titles come highly recommended:

  • Faith at Home: A handbook for Cautiously Christian Parents by Wendy Claire Barrie
  • Faithful Families: Creating Sacred Moments at Home by Traci Smith
  • God’s Word, My Voice: A Lectionary for Children by Lyn Sill Briggs

Here are some of the other recommendations given by the congregation. Be sure to check them out!

  • A Full Life: Reflections at Ninety by Jimmy Carter
  • Love Does by Bob Goff
  • So Long Insecurity: You’ve Been a Bad Friend to Us by Beth Moore
  • The Book of Longings by Sue Monk Kidd
  • Try Softer by Aundi Kolber
  • The Vanishing Half by Brit Bennett
  • The Sacred Enneagram by Chris Heuertz
  • Goldy Schultz Mysteries by Diane Mott Davidson
  • Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson
  • The Life and Times of Prince Albert (The Great Courses) by Patrick Allitt
  • Stranger in a Strange Land by Robert Heinlein

During the summer months as things slow down, be sure to continue to join us online wherever you may be on Sunday at 10 AM for our worship service on YouTube as Rev. Elizabeth Keeler guides us as we celebrate the Seventh Sunday after Pentecost.

As always, Epiphany’s Vestry and staff are here to support you in any way we can. Have prayer requests? Send them to prayers@EpiphanyEC.org and we will be more than happy to pray for you or your family. Have questions, feedback or other needs? Please feel free to reach out to me at srwarden@epiphanyec.org.

Peace to all,
